DataMed

DataMed is the main socio-economic indicator database of the ISMed, built from officially recognised international sources, collecting the most up-to-date and accurate data available, including national, regional and global estimates.

The focus of DataMed is the Wider Mediterranean, a geopolitical and geo-economic theatre comprising contiguous non-homogeneous areas of great international importance. The globalisation of the economy, emphasising the usefulness of belonging to the same producer-consumer chain, has accentuated the interdependence of geographically distant countries, which see the sea (and the global flow of goods and energy resources passing through it) as an important element of continuity.

Moving to a global scale, Datamed includes in its calculations the main countries involved in economic exchanges with the Mediterranean area. This database, while having an internal function to serve ISMed researchers, aims to meet a growing demand for Mediterranean statistics by offering an up-to-date selection of social, economic, environmental and energy data.

DataMed's target audience are scholars, analysts, policy makers, but also individuals interested in approaching geo-economic and geopolitical analysis.

The data are open to free access and downloading. In its current version, the indicators examined in this version are essentially socio-economic and are represented in time series spanning the last 50 years. An in-depth section was also provided for trade, with summary graphical representations (graphs and maps).

Queries to the database may concern individual countries or aggregations of those selected by ISMed researchers. These aggregations are economic, political, geographical.
